A responsible, sustainable fashion and textile sector involves seven steps according to new research published by Monash Sustainable Development Institute.
Cosmos journalist Petra Stock chatted to report co-author, Aleasha McCallion. McCallion has worked in the fashion industry for more than 15 years and holds a Master of Fashion from RMIT and a Bachelor of Home Economics (Consumer Textiles) from the University of British Columbia.
The seven? Reducing consumption, banning ‘finished goods’ like clothing from landfill, investing in education, governments leading by example, recycling and reuse, tracking and tracing, and stronger producer responsibility.
